Executive Team
Ryan Heinonen, MBA, MSN, RN, CPPS
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Ryan Heinonen was named CEO of UPHS – Portage in January 2022, after serving in various clinical and leadership roles since starting at our facility as a registered nurse in 2010. Ryan received his Associate Degree in Nursing from Gogebic Community College and then his Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing Leadership, and Master of Business Administration from Grand Canyon University. He is also a Certified Professional in Patient Safety by the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, as well as a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Casey Baird, MBA, BSN, RN, CPPS
Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
Casey Baird brings nearly two decades of healthcare experience in both clinical settings and progressive leadership roles to the UPHS – Portage Executive Team. A UPHS – Portage employee since 2015, Casey has served our facility in various roles including nurse case manager, Family Birthing Center manager and director of quality and infection prevention, before taking on the title of CNO in June 2024. An Upper Peninsula native, Casey received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Michigan University in 2006 and a Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Management from Western Governor’s University in 2023.
Tracey Bershing, MBA, RPh
Director of Physician Services
Tracey Bershing has worked for UPHS – Portage since 2002, and has held various staff and leadership roles, including her dual role of director of inpatient pharmacy and director of physician services. Tracey received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Ferris State University and Master of Business Administration from Michigan Technological University. She is also a member of the Michigan Pharmacist Association and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Brandi Rivest
Director of People Services
Brandi Rivest was born and raised in the Copper Country and has been with UPHS – Portage for 18 years. She has worked in various staff and leadership roles—originally starting in Registration. In 2017, Brandi transitioned to Human Resources (now People Services). In 2021, she moved to Risk & Compliance and then returned to People Services in 2022 as the director.
